2023 Proprietor Selection
Zinfandel
Proprietor Selection is the pinnacle of Rombauer’s Zinfandel portfolio. This wine is created by blending the best barrels from the finest lots, hand-selected by our winemakers for their exceptional quality. The fruit is grown in premier vineyards in the Sierra Foothills, where the soils, complex topography, and high elevation are ideal for Zinfandel.
Flavor Profiles
Concentrated aromas of blackberry and dense plum that lead to a palate of rich dark fruit flavors, a full body, and notes of vanilla and chocolate from oak aging. This is our deepest and most concentrated of our Zinfandels, with a rich palate, fine tannins, bright natural acidity, and a long, opulent finish.
This wine is a blend of barrels from the most exceptional vineyards in the Sierra Foothills, including our own Twin Rivers and Ostrom Road vineyard in Fiddletown. All vineyards sit around 1,650 ft in elevation and that altitude combined with the distinct soils, complex topography, and warm sunny days grow Zinfandel with deep flavor and concentration.
The grapes were carefully destemmed and optically sorted to ensure only perfect fruit made it into the wine. A cold soak extracted color and flavor before primary fermentation began in tank. The wine was gently basket-pressed, then racked to oak barrels to finish primary fermentation, malolactic fermentation, and aging
