2023 Joy
Late Harvest Chardonnay 375ml
A stunning example of a Sauternes-style dessert wine, this sweet treat is a delight to sip at the end of a meal. Enjoy on its own or even drizzled over vanilla ice cream.
Flavor Profiles
Citrus notes including candied orange peel, ripe ruby grapefruit, and subtle Meyer lemon abound in each glass. These bright and brilliant aromas will evolve into notes of apricot over time, supported by the elements of honey and marzipan which are present now. This wine exhibits the intense flavors and acidity of our Buchli Station vineyard, making each sip an absolute delight.
This wine is an individual cluster selection from two of the oldest blocks of our Buchli Station Vineyard in Carneros. These blocks sit nearest San Pablo Bay, which provides moderate conditions keeping the grapes from ripening too quickly and supplying the ideal amount of humidity for the development of botrytis.
Picked during the day to accommodate the fragile fruit, the Chardonnay then goes into tank for a very slow and gentle whole cluster press to extract the juice before being put into barrel. Joy has a unique barrel fermentation and aging regimen. With the belief that the fresher the toast of the barrel, the better the taste of the wine, the barrels are toasted the morning the wine is put to barrel. Joy wine is 100% barrel fermented.
