2023 Amador County
Barbera
Combining the fruit profile and silky tannins of our Zinfandel with the body and acidity of our Pinot Noir, this Barbera is universally appealing. Easy to sip on its own, it is also the ultimate pizza, pasta, and hamburger wine.
Flavor Profiles
Bright aromas of raspberries, red currant, and clove are evident on the nose. Notes of fresh cherry, cinnamon, and dried floral envelop the palate ending with great length. Barbera’s signature soft tannin and bright acidity holds the wine together and makes you want another sip
The fruit for this wine is grown by Dick Cooper, the godfather of Barbera in the Sierra Foothills of Amador County. Dick first planted Barbera in the region in the 1970s and is regarded as one of the preeminent producers in the area. His fruit is ripe and full of flavor with beautiful, bright acidity
We use gentle, straightforward winemaking techniques to make our Barbera, a strategy that allows the beautiful, fresh fruit to shine. After destemming, the grapes were tankfermented and placed in 790-gallon French oak casks where the wine aged for 15 months. Traditionally used in Italy, these large casks have a lower ratio of wine-to-barrel, allowing the Barbera to develop fresh, bright fruit flavors with the soft roundness that comes from oak aging. This is the only wine in our portfolio aged in this type of cask.
