This reserve bottling comes from select vineyards in the Howell Mountain, St. Helena, Atlas Peak and Calistoga AVAs.
2010 was much cooler than average, punctuated by a late-season heat wave that helped the fruit reach optimal ripeness. The threat of rain in late October made for a compressed harvest, but the resulting wines were beautifully dense and balanced. Sustainable farming practices throughout the growing season were tailored to each block with the assistance aerial photos produced using NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) technology. All fruit was hand-picked and sorted by hand in the vineyard.
The grapes were carefully destemmed and optically sorted to ensure only perfect fruit made it into the tanks. A cold soak extracted color and flavor before primary fermentation. The wine was gently basket-pressed before being racked to French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and aging. The finest lots were carefully chosen and blended to produce the Diamond Selection.
Our favorite Joy of Cooking® pairings for this wine include prime rib with creamed spinach and grilled marinated lamb chops with risi e bisi.
